Why the WAPL Matters for Andhra Pradesh Women’s Cricket

First Franchise Platform for Women in the State

The WAPL is the first franchise-format league in Andhra Pradesh dedicated to women cricketers. Until now, women in the state played through district associations and BCCI’s domestic calendar. The league adds a structured franchise environment with an auction, team support staff, and live broadcast.

Pathway to the WPL and India Selection

Strong WAPL performances give players a visible route to Women’s Premier League scouts and BCCI selectors. The league is scheduled outside the main BCCI women’s domestic window, offering additional competitive match exposure at the state franchise level.

Regional Representation

The four franchises cover the state’s major cricketing regions: Rayalaseema, Godavari, Visakhapatnam and Amaravati. This ensures that emerging talent from every part of Andhra Pradesh has a franchise pathway and that district-level performances can translate into WAPL selection.

Broadcast Reach through JioHotstar

Season 1 is streamed live on JioHotstar, taking the tournament beyond the Mangalagiri stadium and giving Andhra’s women cricketers a national audience. This is the first time a women’s state league in Andhra Pradesh is available on a national OTT platform.
